Catching Up
November and December have come and gone like a whirlwind!
Just before Thanksgiving we had our initial meeting with our adoption counselor who, over the course of a few hours, answered many of our questions and walked us through the process for the foreseeable future.
Two weekends ago, we also attended our "Adoption 101" class, an all-day training seminar, with about a dozen other couples. While Allison and I each have friends close to us who have adopted in the last few years, this training gave us new perspectives by inviting several adult adoptees and birth-parents to share their stories and answer questions, particularly as it relates to open adoption. As you can imagine, eight hours of training is a lot to process, but I think one of my key takeaways is to start thinking about "the story" of how our next child will come into our family, and how many people play a part in that.
Fundraising Update
Thanks to friends and family who have supported us through direct contributions and by purchasing photos, we are well on our way towards our first goal of $4000, which covers the home study process. If you're curious, you can follow our progress on our donation page.
Next Steps
Our next steps include filling out a much more detailed application and writing our narrative autobiographies - our story - so that we can have our next meeting with our counselor and begin the home study. Please pray for us to be quick, clear, and thorough as we work through these documents.
